About the Treatment

What Is Jeuveau and How Does It Work?

Jeuveau contains prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs, a prescription botulinum toxin type A.

Frown lines between the eyebrows are formed in part by repeated activity of the muscles used to frown. When Jeuveau is injected into the targeted muscles, it temporarily reduces the nerve signals that tell those muscles to contract.

As muscle activity decreases, the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines can temporarily soften.

Jeuveau does not add volume and is not a dermal filler. It changes muscle activity for a limited period of time.

Frown Lines

What Jeuveau Is Designed to Treat

One approved cosmetic indication, treated with a plan built around that specific product.

Frown Lines Between the Brows

Jeuveau’s FDA-approved cosmetic indication is specific: temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with muscle activity in adults. These lines are commonly called frown lines or "11s" because of the vertical pattern that can appear between the eyebrows.

Why the Treatment Area Matters

Botulinum toxin products are not interchangeable simply because they belong to the same treatment category. Jeuveau has its own formulation, dosing units, prescribing information, and approved indication, and its units cannot be directly converted to BOTOX Cosmetic or another botulinum toxin product. The treatment decision should be based on the specific product and plan.

A Focused Option, Not a Filler

Jeuveau is useful when muscle movement is contributing to frown lines. It does not restore lost volume or fill a static crease the way a dermal filler is intended to. If your concern involves more than muscle-driven frown lines, your provider can discuss whether Jeuveau alone is likely to address it.

Your Treatment Journey

What to Expect, Results & Recovery

1
Before Treatment
Your provider reviews your frown lines at rest and during facial movement, along with relevant medical history, medications, prior botulinum toxin treatments, and treatment goals. Tell your provider if you have received another botulinum toxin product, have an infection at the planned injection site, have experienced an allergic reaction to botulinum toxin, or have medical conditions that may affect swallowing, breathing, nerves, or muscles.
2
During Treatment
Jeuveau is injected into selected muscles in the glabellar area using a small needle. The FDA-approved treatment pattern for glabellar lines uses five injection sites, and your provider is responsible for determining whether treatment is appropriate and administering it according to the prescribing information.
3
After Treatment
Localized pain, tenderness, swelling, redness, bruising, or inflammation can occur after injection. Follow the instructions provided after your appointment and contact the clinic if you have questions about symptoms or recovery.
4
When Results May Appear
Clinical studies found that some patients showed visible improvement as early as Day 2. The manufacturer reports that most patients in U.S. studies reached the primary evaluated result at Day 30. Individual onset varies, so results should not be judged immediately after the appointment.
5
How Long Results May Last
Jeuveau is temporary. The manufacturer describes results that may remain visible around four months for many patients, while individual duration varies. The prescribing information states that retreatment should occur no more frequently than every three months.

Candidacy

Is Jeuveau Right for You?

Frown lines are common. Your treatment choice should still be individual.

Jeuveau may be worth considering if frown lines between the eyebrows are your main concern and you want a temporary prescription injectable treatment rather than a volumizing procedure.

It is not appropriate for everyone.

Do not receive Jeuveau if you are allergic to Jeuveau or any of its ingredients, have had an allergic reaction to another botulinum toxin product, or have an infection at the planned injection site.

Your provider should also know about previous botulinum toxin treatment, your medications, and any condition that could affect nerve or muscle function, swallowing, or breathing.

If your concerns include forehead lines, crow’s feet, volume loss, skin texture, or other areas, your consultation can help determine whether Jeuveau, BOTOX Cosmetic, another treatment, or no injectable treatment is the most appropriate path.
